Munnar

Hi there!

Good news, there was a strike but for where we were going it doesn’t effect us at all, so we should be on our way at 12 to Munnar for a couple days!
We started our day by walking around Kochi before heading out. We saw Chinese fishing nets, which are big wooden poles that lower a huge net into the water, and then raise it back up again, with fish in it (pictures below). The contraption seems to work pretty well because there were plenty of little booths around that area selling fish. The gross part was most of it wasn’t on ice, so hopefully those fish were fresher and they will put them in ice later??

After the fish market we explored a tiny church, and went to some shops nearby. The problem with shopping in India is most of the things are the same, they don’t have a very wide variety of items but that’s ok, it’s still fun to look.

We were going to get a small lunch but decided against it after looking at the time. So we grabbed a drink and some chips at a corner store, and made our way back to the hotel to meet our driver. His name was Benji. So we packed up our bags in the car and we were off to Munnar.

Along the way we stopped at a floating bridge, which is basically a suspension bridge that had no support along the bottom half. It was actually very stable it shook a little but a lot less then you would think it would, but still kinda freaky when you thought too much about it. The views around the bridge were breathtaking though, absolutely gorgeous!

After that we went to a spice garden, where they showed us about a million different plants that are used for different things. For example, they had plants that helped whiten teeth, they had plants that helped with colds, allergies, headaches, liver problems, urinary problems, and pretty much anything else you could think of. All of these plants are put into medicines and things to help with all sorts of problems. But they also grew normal spices like: lemongrass, peppermint, pepper, cloves, basil, mint, cinnamon, vanilla, all spice, and much more. It was actually very interesting to see where things came from, like things you normally eat. Like pepper comes from a tree! Who would have thought?! Things you just don’t think of!

After purchasing chocolate and spices from there we were on our way to the hotel. We are literally in the middle of nowhere but it is beautiful! It’s sooooo green and lush! There are so many different plants! I didnt expect this at all! The south is definitely more green then the north that’s for sure!

We are now off to dinner and then to bed for we have an early day tomorrow
