Germany day one!

Today we ate croissants for breckfast, and then hurried out the door so we didn't miss our six train connections. We started off with number one which was forty minuets, then thirty, then two hours, then forty again, then twenty, then last but not least a fourteen minuet ride to our final destination: Rothenburg.  Fortunately we made it in time for all our connections. Once we arrived we unpacked and headed out to find food. We finally found food at a small restaurant and I had spatzel and pork, with a cream sauce. After this we walked around a little bit, and then did a night tour. A man who looked and talked like a watchman, led us around and gave us a tour of the town telling us the history of the town.

Some history:
First of all the rich people alway were on the same street (most of the time). After the night they would dump out there chamber pot into the street, and wait for then next rain to wash it down. Unfortunately there were many problems with this.  Number one, when people would dump there chamber pot they would call out below so no one would get splashed. But this caused a problem because when someone screams from above, the person below would just look up, and then you can just guess what happened. Number two, during the summer when the rain did not come, the whole road stunk with poo and pee. So the rich people who could afford a house in the country, left for the summer and did not come back until spring.

Some more history:
During the nights when the watchmen were out, the large gates were never opened, for fear that an enemy army might quickly come in once they where opened. So they created the man hole, so it went like this- once it became dark the bells would ring in the city and warn everyone from outside to come in, they had an hour to reach the gate before it was closed. If they didn't reach the large gate in time, they would have to pay a large fine to enter the man hole, which will teach them to be on time next time.

And with that I say goodnight and goodbye.

Tara
