Morning in Delhi
Hello hello,
We arrived in Delhi last night around 11. And by the time we went through customs, got our bags, and went to the ATM it was around 1:45. Our driver picked us up and we headed to our hotel. And that’s when we realized how crazy the driving was.
The roads do have lines, but no one uses them, people just drift back and forth throughout the lanes. If someone is going to slow in front of you, they will just lay on their horn. And the roads are a mess. Sometimes you would be going like 90 down this straightaway, and then there would just be a pile of containers at the end forcing you to turn either right or left. This also poses a problem for walkers in the street, as no one really cares if they hit you. It’s kind of your problem to get out of their way, not theirs. They also will squeeze through the tiniest gaps between two cars if that’s what it takes to go any bit faster then anyone else.
Our hotel was not terrible, based on the other ones we have stayed at. The bathroom however, had this nice thing where the shower floor was also the bathroom floor. Meaning that when you took a shower the water would just go all over the floor. The beds where comfortable though, everything considered.
Day two has officially begun. We had a breakfast of grilled toast with egg inside, banana, chocolate muffin, corn flakes, and green tea. It was actually pretty ok. After that we went shopping for a coat. However we had no luck.
We continued to walk around the small marketplace around our hotel. There was some lady that came up to me with a baby, and I think she was asking if I would pay her to hold the kid or something to that extent. I now have an India boyfriend too! We were walking around and some kid waved at me, and came over to talk but we had to leave :(( but he is my boyfriend anyways.
After walking around for a while we came back to the hotel packed up and took a car to Agra. Our driver is very nice, and even bought us these curry chips, which were actually decent! It’s funny how much our white skin attracts the attention everywhere, even when you are in the backseat of a car! Everyone looks over and waves or smiles.
As we reached Agra we stopped to get some lunch, at a very nice restaurant. We had chicken tiki masala, nann bread, some lental soup, and many other things. It was a very filling lunch, so much so that I didn’t eat dinner. After lunch we headed to a garden in which you could see the back of the Taj Mahal (picture below). It was a very beautiful garden full of trees and many people walking around.
After that we headed to our hotel. We were going to go out, but we decided we wanted to stay in and rest. Plus we are all extremely tired from the time difference. Tomorrow we go to the inside of the Taj Mahal, and then to another temple.
